Wildcats earn 3-3 tie with No. 7 Endicott

Gulls claim extra point in shootout

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior netminder Jake Inzirillo made 48 saves to backstop the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team to a 3-3 tie with No. 7 Endicott College on Senior Day Friday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Schneider Arena.

Freshman Zachary Brady recorded a goal and an assist for the Wildcats (8-14-3, 6-12-2 CNE), who carried a 3-1 lead into the waning moments of the third period, only to see the Gulls strike for two goals in the final 2:10 of the contest to force overtime.

JWU held a 2-0 lead after one behind a goal from Brady 2:59 into the contest and another from classmate Roman Wainwright at 17:29. The Gulls (19-3-3, 14-3-3 CNE) cut their deficit in half with a shorthanded goal late in the second.

Following a penalty kill in the third, sophomore Cullen Hennessy sprung junior Connor Nelson out of the box for a breakaway goal that made it 3-1 at 6:08 and electrified the Schneider Arena crowd.

Endicott climbed to within one at 3-2 with a goal at 17:50 with netminder Peter Sterling on the bench before tying the game on a shot from the point that struck a Wildcat and redirected into the net.

The Gulls outshot the Wildcats 3-1 in the extra session before winning a four-round shootout, 2-1. Wainwright tallied for the home team, which honored seniors Davis Bone and Cam Martin, along with director of hockey operations Alex Goodstein, prior to the start of the game.
