Four Wildcats placed on USC All-Region 1 Team

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) women's soccer team placed four student-athletes on the 2024 United Soccer Coaches (USC) NCAA Division III All-Region I Teams: senior Emily DeRoehn (First Team), senior Angelina Oliveira (Second Team), graduate student Madison Sanborn (Third Team), and sophomore Sophia Warburton (Third Team).

DeRoehn – who was named to the USC All-Region 1 First Team in both 2022 and 2023 – finished her senior campaign with 18 points on six goals and six assists in 23 matches. The three-time reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Defensive Player of the Year collected a season-high five points (2-1-5) in a win over Elms on September 4 and scored the GWG on a penalty kick at Colby-Sawyer one week later.

A four-time GNAC First Team pick (2021-24), the Old Lyme, Connecticut native was the linchpin of a defense which held opponents to just 14 goals in 23 matches and posted 16 shutouts. DeRoehn – who netted the game-winner in the GNAC Quarterfinals against Regis (MA) on November 2 – finished her career tied for No. 5 in game-winning goals (nine), tied for No. 7 in goals (31), and tied for No. 10 in points (74) in program history.

Oliveria finished tied for second on JWU with eight goals and her 19 points was good for fourth. A two-time GNAC First Team selection (2022 & 2024) from Naugatuck, Connecticut, Oliveira scored goals in the GNAC playoffs against both the Pride and Emmanuel (MA), and notched a season-high three points (1-1-3) against Simmons back on September 14. She finished her career with 31 goals and 68 points; her goal total ties her with DeRoehn and Kelly Gil (2003-06) for No. 7 at JWU.

The 2023 GNAC Rookie of the Year and 2024 GNAC Second Team pick, Warburton led the Wildcats in assists with 11 and finished second in points with 23. The Norfolk, Virginia native dished out a pair of assists against both Mitchell (Sept. 28) and Dean (Oct. 16), and tallied three game-winning goals, including the game-winner against eventual conference champion Emmanuel (MA) on October 5 in Boston, Mass. Warburton – who is averaging more than a point-per-match in her collegiate career (50 points in 46 matches) – has six GWG in her brief tenure at JWU.

Sanborn chalked up nine points on three goals and three helpers this past season, and graduates with 26 points (11-4-26) in 88 career matches (86 starts). A native of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, she converted a penalty kick against NEC (Sept. 7) and later notched a goal and an assist against the Mariners.

The Wildcats finished the 2024 campaign with an 18-4-1 record and advanced to the GNAC Championship match for the fifth-consecutive season, where they fell to No. 2 seeded Saints, 2-1.
