PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 2 Johnson & Wales (RI) University wrestling team dominated the Battle of the WU's to the tune of a 37-6 win over Roger Williams University Friday night at the Wildcat Center.
Freshman Joziah Fry (125 lbs.), senior Victor Perlleshi (141 lbs.), and senior Gabe McDaniel (149 lbs.) all secured victories via pin for the Wildcats. Fry recorded his win in 4:10 while Perlleshi pinned his opponent in 4:43 and McDaniel in 3:55.
Senior Ryan DeVivo took down Cole Shaughnessy by majority decision (11-2) at 184 lbs.; last season, Shaughnessy's win over Devivo prevented him from going to nationals. Sophomore Gabriel Leo, meanwhile, moved down a weight class to compete at 133 lbs. and scored a 13-5 majority decision win.
Graduate student Tommy Wrzesien notched a 5-4 win at 197 lbs. for JWU while classmate William Hughes won a 10-5 decision at 157 lbs. and sophomore Patrick Wisniewski was a 20-4 tech fall winner at 165 lbs.
