WORCESTER, Mass. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University wrestling team closed out action at WPI on Saturday with a 52-3 win over the Engineers on the campus of WPI.
Freshman Joziah Fry began the match with a 25-8 tech foul win at 125 lbs. (6:45), followed by a win from freshman Nicholas Torres at 133 lbs. in 13 seconds and another from senior Victor Perlleshi at 141 lbs. in 17 seconds.
Junior Hayden Brown won via fall at 149 lbs. in 1:19 before junior Matthew Garcia secured a fall win in 1:16 at 157 lbs. Later, junior Scott Defex picked up an 18-0 tech fall win at 165 lbs., senior Ryan DeVivo won in 42 seconds at 184 lbs., graduate student Tommy Wrzesien won via pin in 1:15 at 197 lbs., and classmate Liridon Leka recorded a pin in 6:56 at 285 lbs.
Earlier in the day, the Wildcats defeated Trinity (CT) 51-3 and Bridgewater State 43-11.
