ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University wrestling team scored wins over No. 12 Alvernia (24-15), Muhlenberg (33-10), Temple (60-0), and Camden (49-3) Saturday at the Scotty Woods Duals, hosted by Muhlenberg College.
Freshman Joziah Fry (125 lbs.) won three matches on Saturday against Alvernia (tech fall, 19-2), Muhlenberg (decision, 13-7), and Camden (tech fall, 4:30). Classmate Adolfo Betancur (heavyweight) picked up a forfeit win over Temple, a pinfall triumph (1:25) against the Mules, and a 4-0 decision against Camden.
Senior Ryan DeVivo (184 lbs.) scored a pin against No. 8 ranked Isaac Kassis of the Golden Wolves (4:36), a tech fall against the Mules (4:54), and a fall victory against the Cougars (1:00). Classmate Gabe McDaniel (149 lbs.) won by forfeit against the Owls, secured a 5-3 decision against Alvernia, and notched a tech fall (4:30) against the Mules.
Sophomore Victor Perlleshi (149 lbs.) won by forfeit against the Cougars and tech fall (6:33) against the Mules. Classmate Dylan Harr (197 lbs.) recorded a fall victory against Camden (:36 seconds), an 11-4 decision against Alvernia, a forfeit win against Temple, and a majority decision (17-4) against the Mules.
Graduate student William Hughes (157 lbs.) secured a fall win in 1:15 against the Cougars and a tech fall against the Mules.
Sophomore Gabriel Leo (141 lbs.) had a fall victory against the Cougars and an 11-7 decision against the Golden Wolves. Classmate Christian Murphy (165 lbs.) won via forfeit against both the Cougars and Owls.
Freshman Harrison Gordon (133 lbs.) was a majority decision winner against Alvernia (11-3), a fall win against the Cougars, and a forfeit victory against the Owls.
Other winners against Temple included freshman Ryan O'Rourke (125 lbs.), sophomore Jordan Suarez (141 lbs.), junior Thomas DiResta (157 lbs.), freshman Ky'ell Roper (174 lbs.), and senior Bailey O'Brien (184 lbs.).
