BRISTOL, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University wrestling team placed third at the Roger Williams Invitational Saturday at the RWU Field House with 144.5 points.
Junior Hayden Brown (157 lbs.) and sophomore Dylan Harr (197 lbs.) were crowned champions in their respective weight class as the Wildcats finished the day with 12 individual place finishers – seven of which advanced to the finals. Both Brown and Harr closed the day a perfect 4-0.
Freshman Harrison Gordon finished the 3-1 and was the runner-up at 125.lbs., as were sophomore Victor Perlleshi at 141 lbs. (3-1 record) and senior Ryan DeVivo at 184 lbs. (3-1 record). Freshman Joziah Fry carried a perfect 3-0 record into the finals at 133 lbs., but was forced to retire and did not compete. Graduate student Will Hughes closed the day 4-1 and fell in the finals at 157 lbs.
Junior Gabriel Degraffinreed posted a 5-1 record at 157 lbs. and earned a fourth-place finish while sophomore Patrick Wisniewski took fifth place at 165 lbs., finishing with a 4-2 record.
Castleton won the event with 165 points, followed by Wisconsin-Eau Claire (150.5 pts.), JWU, Southern Me. (95 points), and Roger Williams (88.5 points).
