Wildcats Expanding Club Football Roster

PROVIDENCE, RI – Three years ago, a Johnson & Wales University club football team was just a glimmering hope for a few students. Starting in the spring of 2019, the Wildcats are actively recruiting to expand the roster and advance the competitive program.

Chuck Allaire was hired as head coach last season. Prior to joining the Wildcats, Allaire spent eight seasons at New Bedford Technical High School – where he also teaches math – as an assistant coach, including four years as defensive coordinator. Allaire got his bachelor's degree from Westfield State and a master's in sports & recreation management from New England College.

Over the spring and summer, he will continue to build the team and is actively recruiting players for the 2019 season. The goal is to fill a roster of 60 student-athletes.

After a year of practices and scrimmages, the JWU football program played its first games in the fall of 2018 at Classical High School. Johnson & Wales recorded a 2-3 record last season with wins over Clarkson and Vermont.

For more information, contact coach Allaire (Charles.Allaire@jwu.edu), Michelle Spreda (Michelle.Spreda@jwu.edu) or Elizabeth Zmarlicki (Elizabeth.Zmarlicki@jwu.edu)

Johnson & Wales is one of three schools in the GNAC with an active football program. Norwich University competes in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference while Anna Maria College plays in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference. The Wildcats are members of the National Club Football Association and compete in the North Atlantic Conference.
