PROVIDENCE, R.I. – JWU (Providence) Director of Athletics
Dana Garfield has announced the hiring of
JJ Archibald as Assistant Director of Athletics. Archibald – who began working at the University earlier this month – will have oversight of all student-athlete programming, including education, training, and development while also assisting in strategic planning for the department.
Archibald comes to JWU following stints with the Conference of New England (CNE) as the Associate Commissioner/SWA, and Salem Academy and College in North Carolina as the Director of Athletics Recreation and Physical Education.
"I would like to thank
Dana Garfield and the hiring committee for the opportunity to work with the faculty, staff and students at Johnson & Wales," said Archibald. "I am excited to work directly with student-athletes to assist them in becoming the best versions of themselves, both in the classroom and in their competition spaces. Leadership, peer mentorship, and captainship are values I hold dear, and I can't wait to connect with the JWU community."
Prior to her time at Salem Academy and College, Archibald served as the Assistant Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator at the SUNY Oswego from 2018-21. Archibald stewarded the progress of the men's cross country, women's cross country, field hockey, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, softball, and swimming & diving programs as their sport supervisor.
Additionally, Archibald was a member of the University's Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) SWA Committee. She managed all event operations for 24 NCAA Division III varsity programs, coordinated scheduling for all athletic facilities, and spearheaded all marketing, promotion, and sponsorship opportunities for the athletics department.
Archibald has also spent time at Ithaca College (facility, event setup, & team travel specialist), interning with the Women Leaders in College Sports organization (membership services), and experiential learning opportunities within the NCAA (new athletics director seminar; emerging leaders symposium; institute for administrative advancement).
Archibald earned her Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from Mount Holyoke and her Master of Education in physical education with a concentration in athletic administration from Springfield.
