JWU Softball Eliminated from NCAA Tournament 4-0 by Moravian

EWING TOWNSHIP, NJ – Thunderstorms delayed the Johnson & Wales University softball team's NCAA Tournament game by a day, but it couldn't keep the Wildcats' season alive. Johnson & Wales was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament, 4-0, by Moravian on Sunday.

Johnson & Wales concludes the year in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth year in a row and the program's third-straight 30-win season. JWU ends the year with a 32-13 record while the Greyhounds improved to 34-6 and face Salisbury in the regional final.

The game was halted on Saturday in the bottom of the third by thunderstorms.

Moravian broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kat Spilman had an RBI double and Janae Matos followed with single to score a run. JWU starter Jennifer Corona was saddled with the loss.

The Wildcat bats were stifled by Moravian starter Josie Novak. Johnson & Wales' two hits were a single in the third by first baseman Kayla McKinnon and another by designated player Katie Rufo in the seventh.

The 2019 season will be a rebuilding process for head coach Kim Camara-Harvey as she loses five starters off this year's team, including Corona – the program's all-time leader in wins and innings pitched.
