Leonetti, Clee top list of GNAC Softball All-Conference performers

WINTHROP, Mass. – JWU (Providence) softball head coach Laura Leonetti and senior Mackenzie Clee have been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach and Player of the Year, respectively, and headlined the list of 10 members of the program to earn all-conference recognition.

Clee (OF) was joined on the First Team by senior Katie Scheid (P) and freshman Morgan Pelletier (DP) while junior Mady Lyons (C), along with sophomores Amanda Madigan (2B) and Jessica Forneiro (3B) were named to the Second Team. Senior Caroline Amorelli (OF) and junior Jillian Reed (P) earned a spot on the Third Team and junior Rachel Gosselin garnered a spot on the Sportsmanship Team for the second-consecutive season.

Leonetti guided the Wildcats to 29 wins – the fourth-highest total in program history – and the sixth GNAC Championship in program history (2015-18, 2022). The first-year head coach and former Brown University softball standout helped the Wildcats navigate an early-season slump which saw them drop nine of their first 12 contests to win 26 of their next 32. As a result, JWU secured the No. 1 seed in the GNAC Tournament for the second time in three years.

Clee – who tossed a complete-game shutout in Sunday's 7-0 win over USJ in the GNAC Championship – led the conference in runs (50) and placed second in on-base pct. (.507), third in average (.446), and fourth in hits (54), and is tied for ninth in stolen bases (12), tied for 10th in walks (18), and tied for 12th in slugging pct. (.570). The Warminster, Pennsylvania native hit safely in 33 of the team's 39 games, including 14 multi-hit efforts. Clee ripped off a 13-game hitting streak from March 20 through April 9, batting .479 during that span (23-of-48).

A GNAC First Team pick in 2024, Scheid lead the conference in wins (14), earned run average (ERA) (2.38), and complete games (17) thus far in 2025. The Hightstown, New Jersey native ranks third in innings pitched (129.2) and sixth in strikeouts (75), and enters this weekend's NCAA Tournament games in McMinnville, Oregon No. 2 all-time in wins (48), No. 4 in IP (436.1), No. 5 in punchouts (251), and No. 8 in ERA (3.22) at JWU. Scheid allowed two runs or less in 14 starts this season and closed the regular season winning 10 of her last 11 starts.

Pelletier sits second in the GNAC in home runs (seven) and her 33 RBI are tied for sixth. Named GNAC Rookie of the Week on April 21, the Meriden, Connecticut native belted two home runs against both WPI (March 22) and later against Regis (MA) in the GNAC Tournament (May 1). She owns a .366 average (26-for-71) and a .726 slugging pct.

Lyons led the GNAC in hits (60), home runs (13), RBI (54), and slugging pct. (.828), is tied for third in doubles (14), and ranked fourth in average (.438) and seventh in on-base pct. (.468). The Prior Lake, Minnesota drove in two-or-more runs in 13 games, including a season-high six against the Pride in the GANC Tournament on May 1 and five against Framingham State on April 17. Lyons smacked two home runs on three occasions and notched two-or-more hits 19 times, including a 3-for-3 effort against the Blue Jays on Sunday. Her three-run home run in the fifth gave the Wildcats a 5-0 lead and propelled them to their second conference crown in four years.

Madigan started 36 games and owns a .322 average with 38 hits, 35 runs (tied for No. 4 in GNAC), five doubles and 18 RBI. The Holbrook, New York native picked up three hits on four occasions, including back-to-back games against Wheaton (MA) (April 1) and Mitchell (April 4). Madigan plated a season-high four runs with a 3-for-3 effort against Elms on April 16.

Forneiro – who was named to the GNAC All-Rookie Team in 2024 – raised her average by over 60 points in 2025 (.278 in 2024 to .347 in 2025) and has two home runs and 26 RBI in 41 starts at the hot corner. The Kings Park, New York native drove in a season-high four against the Blazers and three against WPI (March 22) and Mitchell (April 4).

A four-time GNAC All-Conference performer, Amorelli owns a .276 average with three home runs (t-No. 7 in GNAC), 13 RBI (t-No. 9 in GNAC), and nine doubles (t-No. 17 in GNAC). In the process, the Berlin, New Jersey native climbed into the top five in program history in both home runs (19) and RBI (142). Amorelli blasted two home runs and drove in six against Dean (March 30).

Reed won a career-high 12 games (No. 4 in GNAC) and ranks second in the conference with a 2.40 ERA, eighth in innings pitched (118.1), and 10th in strikeouts (56). The Burlington, New Jersey native picked up a complete game win in game two of this past weekend's GNAC Championship series against USJ and owns 12 complete games thus far in 2025.

Gosselin appeared in 19 games (three starts) and scored seven runs while collecting her first hit of the season against Framingham State (April 17).

The Wildcats (29-15) will face Linfield in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 16. Game time is TBA.
