MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Since the start of 2017, the Johnson & Wales University women's ice hockey team has played very well at both ends of the ice. The Wildcats were honored for their work on both offense and defense as Casey Chodkowski and Julia Åberg earned weekly honors from the Colonial Hockey Conference.
Chodkowski (Somerset, Mass.) was named CHC Player of the Week and Åberg (Stockholm, Sweden) picked CHC Goaltender of the Week. It's the second time this season Åberg has picked up a weekly award while it's the first time for Chodkowski. Morrisville State's Jessica Ujcik was named Rookie of the Week.
Chodkowski had a pair of career-best games last week to move up to ninth in the league at 13 points. The sophomore forward scored two goals against Nichols, marking her first career two-goal game, then added a goal and two assists in the 6-1 win over Post University for the first three-point game of her career.
Åberg posted a shutout in her only performance of the week, the Wildcats' 5-0 win over Nichols. She recorded 14 saves in the contest. This marked her second shutout of the season. Åberg leads the CHC with a .962 save percentage and is fourth with a 1.55 goals against average.
Johnson & Wales is back on the ice Thursday when it takes on SUNY Canton at 4 p.m. The game will be played at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in downtown Providence.
