JWU loses a pair to Ursinus

LEXINGTON, S.C. – The JWU (Providence) baseball team dropped a pair of games to Ursinus College Saturday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Lexington County Baseball Stadium.

Game One: Bears 12, Wildcats 8
The Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead before dingers from senior Jack Obert, junior Henry Melanson, and sophomore Jeremy Auren helped the Wildcats knot the game at six after six. Ursinus put up a '4' spot in the top of the seventh to grab a 10-6 lead. An RBI single off the bat of junior Jack Dwyer helped JWU push across a pair in the eighth and make it 10-8, however single runs in the eighth and ninth from Ursinus proved to be too much for the Wildcats to overcome.

Junior Dylan Young worked 6.2 innings on the mound and allowed eight hits and 10 runs (four earned) to go with five walks and two strikeouts. Auren finished game one 3-for-4 while Obert and junior Jeff Valdez Jimenez each registered two RBI.

Game Two: Bears 5, Wildcats 2
Freshman Justin Hernandez picked up three hits and junior Diego Taveras laced an RBI single in the ninth for the Wildcats. Sophomore Brady Morin took the loss as he surrendered eight hits and five runs (three earned) in six innings of work. He walked one and punched out four.
