PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior
Xavier Botelho went 5-for-5 with three RBI for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 17-12 loss to Babson College Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Classmate
Zachary Amero also drove in three – including two on a double in the fifth – and junior
Ryan St. Jean and freshman
Yedan Diaz both picked up two RBI for the Wildcats (21-13), who pounded out 15 hits but committed six errors which led to seven unearned runs.
The Beavers (22-8) carried a 7-1 lead into the fourth before RBI singles from Amero and St. Jean, followed by a sac fly off the bat of Diaz, cut the JWU deficit to 7-4. Later, an RBI double off the bat of Amero and a run-scoring single by St. Jean helped turn an 11-5 Babson lead to four runs.
Leading 12-8 after seven, Babson scored three times in the eighth to stretch its lead to seven runs. Botelho then laced a two-run single in the eighth and, after the Beavers tacked on two more in the top of the ninth, Diaz ripped an RBI double and Obert singled him in to cap the scoring.
St. Jean finished with three hits while Diaz, Amero, and senior
Trevor Juan each registered two. Freshman
Joaquin Cardoso took the loss as he allowed four hits and three runs in 2.0 IP. The Beavers finished with 17 hits and overcame three errors of their own.
