CARY, N.C. – Junior
Aidan Vining struck out eight over seven innings of work to earn his first win of 2025 for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 5-2 win over William Peace Thursday night in non-conference action at the USA Baseball National Training Center.
Senior
Ryan St. Jean recorded two hits and drove in a pair with a two-run single in the eighth as the Wildcats moved to 2-4 on their season-opening trip down the east coast. Junior
Jack Obert scored twice while senior
Owen Davis went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Davis pushed across the first run of the game in the first on an RBI groundout. In the third, a run-scoring single off the bat of freshman
Jeff Valdez Jimenez and an RBI groundout from classmate
Henry Melanson stretched the lead to 3-0.
After William Peace scratched out a run in its half of the fourth, Vining held the Pacers hitless for the next three innings before St. Jean's eighth-inning single extended the lead to four at 5-1.
Vining held the Pacers to three hits and one run, and issued one free pass to record his first win of the season. Sophomore
Evan LaMothe was tagged for an unearned run in an otherwise perfect ninth inning.
