Wildcats split home doubleheader with Western New England

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) baseball team split its non-conference doubleheader with Western New England University Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Golden Bears 6, Wildcats 5 (7 inn.)
Junior Ryan Ducey went 2-for-3 with an RBI single as the Wildcats trailed 6-0 heading to their half of the third, where they put up a '4' spot to pull to within two. The frame was highlighted by RBI singles from senior Trevor Juan and freshman Jeff Valdez Jimenez, and a run-scoring double off the bat of senior Zachary Amero. Ducey's fourth-inning single through the left side cut it to 6-5 and capped the scoring. Freshman Joaquin Cardoso allowed five hits and two runs in 2.0 IP in defeat for JWU.

Game Two: Wildcats 10, Golden Bears 0 (7 inn.)
Juan cleared the bases with a double to left-center in a five-run sixth inning and propelled the Wildcats to their eighth win in their last nine games. Senior Owen Davis laced two hits and drove in one with a sixth-inning double as seven of the nine JWU hitters recorded at least one RBI. Senior Nicolas Fortes and Diaz each drove in a run in the second before an RBI triple from senior Ryan St. Jean and a run-scoring single from Ducey sparked a three-run fourth and made it 5-0. Senior Ben Fosberg fanned two in 2.0 innings of relief to notch his second win of the season.
