PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) baseball team rolled to a 17-3 win over UMass Boston Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Freshman
Jeff Valdez Jimenez continued his torrid hitting for the Wildcats, going 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored. Junior
Ryan Ducey laced a two-run single in a 14-run sixth inning and finished with three RBI while senior
Ryan St. Jean laced a two-run double and collected three RBI, and freshman
Yedan Diaz plated two runs.
With the game knotted at two heading to the sixth, the Wildcats sent 19 men to the plate, 13 of whom scored on just six hits. Diaz drove in two on an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk, one of four in the inning drawn by JWU student-athletes. Jimenez collected three RBI on a pair of run-scoring singles while Obert also brought in one on a single. Two more runners crossed the plate on wild pitches.
Senior
Ben Fosberg was one of seven hurlers used by head coach
Kevin Casey, and he was credited with the win following a scoreless sixth inning of work. Wildcat pitchers combined to strike out nine on the day.
