Wildcats blast Elms in matinee action, 14-4

HOLYOKE, Mass. – Freshman Jeff Valdez Jimenez smacked a three-run home run and drove in six for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 14-4 win over Elms College Tuesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Mackenzie Stadium.

The reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week homered un the first before recorded an RBI double in the third and plating two with a single in the eighth for the Wildcats (10-8, 3-0 GNAC), who ran their win streak to six. Valdez Jimenez finished the afternoon with three hits and three runs scored while senior and reigning GNAC Player of the Week Trevor Juan was 2-for-3 with two RBI and three walks.

The Wildcats raced out to a 9-0 lead after three, scoring three in the first, two in the second and four in the third. Valdez Jimenez went deep in the first before seniors Zachary Amero and Xavier Botelho drew bases-loaded walks in the second. Juan's two-run double highlighted the scoring in the third.

JWU tacked on two in the seventh and capped the scoring in the eighth on an RBI double off the bat of junior Jack Obert and a two-run single from Valdez Jimenez.

Junior Brett Nickerson allowed six hits and four runs (three earned) with no walks and 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work for his second win of the season. Sophomore Evan LaMothe worked the win 1.2 innings and fanned three.
