HAMDEN, Conn. – The JWU (Providence) baseball team won a 19-10 slugfest with Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Sunday afternoon at Hamden Hall Country Day School.
Senior
Xavier Botelho went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored for the Wildcats, who registered 12 hits and benefitted from seven Falcon errors to move to climb above the .500 mark at 9-8 this season. Junior
Ryan Ducey also picked up three hits and scored four times while senior
Trevor Juan finished the day with two hits and two RBI.
The Wildcats hung a '9' spot on the home team in the first as Botelho cleared the bases with a three-run double, which was followed by run-scoring hits from Ducey, freshman
Jeff Valdez Jimenez, and Juan. A pair of errors opened the door to a six-run inning for the Falcons in the fourth that made the score 12-7 in favor of JWU heading to the fifth.
In the sixth, a sac fly off the bat of sophomore
Henry Melanson and an RBI single from junior
Jack Obert stretched the Wildcats lead to 15-7. Senior
Nicolas Fortes and Davis each plated a run in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Freshman
Joaquin Cardoso pitched 2.2 innings in relief of junior starter
Max Randazzo and was credited with the win, his second of the season.
