NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Freshman
Jeff Valdez Jimenez belted two home runs – including a grand slam in the second inning – and finished with five RBI as the JWU (Providence) baseball team rolled to a 14-4 win over WPI Friday afternoon in non-conference action Friday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.
Sophomore
Henry Melanson went 3-for-4 with six RBI as the Wildcats pounded out 15 hits in inning their third-straight contest. Freshman
Yedan Diaz launched a three-run homer to left in the fourth, when the Wildcats hung an '8' spot on the home team.
Seniors
Trevor Juan,
Zachary Amero, and
Nicolas Fortes, all picked up two hits for the visitors. The second inning was highlighted by Valdez' third round tripper of the season, followed by a two-run shot and a two-run single from Melanson. Dingers from Jimenez and Diaz in the fourth helped push the lead to 14-1 after three-and-a-half innings.
Eight different student-athletes took the bump for the Wildcats with senior
Ryan Schultz earning the win, striking out two in a scoreless inning of relief. His record stand at 2-2 thus far in 2025.
