Obert drives in three in one-run loss to Nittany Lions

BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior Jack Obert went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 5-4 loss to No. 25 Penn St.-Harrisburg Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Babb Field.

Senior Xavier Botelho launched his first home run of the season and finished with a pair of hits for the Wildcats, who lost on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth. Freshman Jeff Valdez Jimenez recorded three hits in his first collegiate game for head coach Kevin Casey.

JWU struck for three runs in the second on Botelho's round tripper, an RBI double off the bat of Obert, and a fielder's choice off the bat of junior Ryan Ducey which brought in senior Nicolas Fortes. After the Nittany Lions made it 3-2 with a pair in the third, Obert singled to left in the top of the sixth to plate sophomore Henry Melanson and give the visitors a 4-2 lead.

Penn State answered with two in their half of the seventh before Carlos Iriza homered to left leading off the bottom of the ninth. JWU junior starter Aidan Vining allowed four hits and two runs with no walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work.
