Cadets clip Wildcats, 3-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) baseball team suffered a 3-2 loss to Norwich University Sunday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Juniors Nicolas Fortes and Xavier Botelho each drove in a run with an extra based hit for the Wildcats, who were held to six hits in a contest which saw them serve as the visitors after the game was moved from Northfield, Vermont.

The Cadets trailed 2-1 heading to the bottom of the eighth before pushing across two runs. In the ninth, Botelho laced an RBI triple to bring JWU to within one when senior Gus Lappin flied out to centerfield for the second out. Botelho attempted to tag-up but was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

Sophomore Brett Nickerson got the start for JWU and allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) over seven innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out three.
