Baseball wins two on Senior Day against Lasell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) baseball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader from Lasell University Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Wildcats 10, Lasers 0 ( 7 inn.)
Senior Riley Hasson belted a two-run home run and laced a two-run triple for the Wildcats, who also received a two-run double off the bat of classmate Jack Magane and run-scoring doubles from senior EJ Leone and junior Xavier Botelho. Sophomore Aidan Vining scattered four hits over seven shutout innings and struck out seven to move to 6-1 on the season.

Game Two: Wildcats 11, Lasers 1
Prior to the start of the nightcap, the Wildcats honored Hasson, Magane, Leone, and classmate Jake Berger, PJ Daniels, Peter Gianquinto, Gus Lappin, Cody Pfeifer, and Thorin Sanchez-Guerra for their contributions to the program. After the Lasers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first, the Wildcats scored the next 11 runs, highlighted by a grand slam from Leone in the sixth. Sophomore Jack Obert also left the yard and finished with two hits and two RBI while Lappin drove in two runs on a single and a sac fly. Sophomore Brett Nickerson allowed three hits and one run over seven innings to go with two walks and four strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.
