No. 7 Salve Regina scores three in 11th to down Wildcats, 8-6

NEWPORT, R.I. – Senior Riley Hasson belted a pair of home runs and drove in four for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in an 8-6 extra-innings loss to No. 7 Salve Regina University Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Reynolds Field.

Hasson, along with juniors Nicolas Fortes and Trevor Juan, each registered two hits for the Wildcats (20-9), who rallied to tie the game in the ninth and forces extras. The seventh-ranked Seahawks (25-5) walked it off with a three-run home run off the bat of Matt D'Amato with no outs in the 11th inning.

JWU trailed 4-1 heading to the seventh when Hasson launched his third home run of the season to left, scoring Juan and senior Jake Magane. The Seahawks regained the lead in their half of the frame, but Juan doubled to lead off the ninth and later scored the tying run on a passed ball.

In the eleventh, Hasson's second round tripper of the day over the centerfield wall gave the Wildcats their first lead of the afternoon at 6-5. Junior Garrett Fusco suffered the loss in relief, allowing four hits and three runs with six strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work.
