NEW LONDON, Conn. – Senior
Jack Magane went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the JWU (Providence) baseball team in a 7-5 loss at Mitchell College Monday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Alumni Field.
Junior
Trevor Juan added three hits, and seniors
Riley Hasson and
EJ Leone each plated a run for the Wildcats, who moved to 20-8 on the season (10-3 GNAC). Sophomore
Max Randazzo took the loss, allowing nine hits and four runs to go with seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
JWU allowed one in the top of the first, but a Leone sac fly in the bottom half of the frame tied the game at one. The Mariners scored twice in the second and once in the fifth to move in front 4-1, and an RBI groundout from Hasson in the bottom of the fifth cut the Mitchell lead to 4-2.
A two-run double in the sixth made it a 6-2 lead for Mitchell before a two-run double from Magane – who later scored on a passed ball – in the seventh brought the Wildcats to within two at 6-5. After the Mariners added an insurance run in their half of the ninth, JWU put runners on the corners with one down in the bottom of the inning but were unable to manufacture the tying runs.
