Baseball takes two from Dean in GNAC action

FRANKLIN, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) baseball program piled up 36 runs in sweeping a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader from Dean College Saturday afternoon at the Longley Athletic Complex.

Game One: Wildcats 17, Bulldogs 5 (7 inn.)
Junior Trevor Juan went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run and five RBI as the Wildcats hung crooked numbers in each of the first four innings. Junior Nicolas Fortes laced a two-run single in the first before senior EJ Leone and junior Xavier Botelho each plated a run in the second to push the JWU lead to 7-1. Juan's round tripper in the third made it 10-4 and run-scoring hits from Juan and Botelho extended the lead to 16-4 after four. Junior Ben Fosberg came on in relief of sophomore Aidan Vining to earn the win, holding the Bulldogs to three hits and one run in four innings of work, striking out three.

Game Two: Wildcats 19, Bulldogs 8
The Wildcats put up a '12' spot in the fourth to turn a six-all game into a blowout. The innings was highlighted by a two-run home run from Juan, two-run singles from Fortes and junior Owen Davis, and RBI singles from senior Jack Magane and Riley Hasson, and Davis again later in the frame. Hasson closed the contest 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI while Davis drove in four and Juan, Hasson, Leone, Fortes, and junior Zachary Amero each had two RBI. Junior Nick Calenda earned the win in relief, striking out six over 4.2 innings of two-run ball.
