Fortes plates three in 8-4 win over Anchormen

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Nicolas Fortes roped a two-run double and finished with three RBI as the JWU (Providence) baseball team rallied for an 8-4 win over in-state rival Rhode Island College Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Junior Trevor Juan added an RBI single and scored twice as the Wildcats (10-5) ran their win streak to five. Sophomore Ryan Ducey drove in a pair while senior Riley Hasson and junior Ryan St. Jean each picked up an RBI in the victory.

JWU built a 3-2 lead behind Fortes' run-scoring double and an RBI fielders choice from Hasson. After the Anchormen (9-5) pushed across two in the seventh to move in front 4-3, the Wildcats put up a '4' spot in their half of the frame, highlighted by a two-run double from Ducey and Juan's single that brought home senior Jake Magane.

Junior Ryan Schultz picked up the win in relief of sophomore Brett Nickerson, striking out four in 2.1 innings of scoreless ball to record his second win of the season.
