BOSTON, Mass. – Junior
Nicolas Fortes went 3-for-5 with two RBI to lift the JWU (Providence) baseball team to a 9-7 win at UMass Boston Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Monan Park.
Senior
Riley Hasson collected three hits – including an RBI single in the first – and juniors
Owen Davis and
Trevor Juan laced RBI doubles for the Wildcats (7-5), who notched 14 hits and scored in each of the first four innings.
The Wildcats trailed 5-4 entering the fourth before Juan plated senior
Jack Magane to even the contest at five. After the Beacons regained the lead at 6-5 in their half of the sixth, JWU scored twice in the seventh behind run-scoring singles from freshman pinch-hitter
Evan Brindisi and sophomore
Jack Obert to grab a 7-6 lead. Fortes' two-run single in the eighth extended the lead to 9-6.
Junior
Ryan Schultz picked up the win in relief, allowing three hits and one run over 3.2 innings of work. He walked one and struck out one.
