Wildcats rally past Beacons, 9-7

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Nicolas Fortes went 3-for-5 with two RBI to lift the JWU (Providence) baseball team to a 9-7 win at UMass Boston Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Monan Park.

Senior Riley Hasson collected three hits – including an RBI single in the first – and juniors Owen Davis and Trevor Juan laced RBI doubles for the Wildcats (7-5), who notched 14 hits and scored in each of the first four innings.

The Wildcats trailed 5-4 entering the fourth before Juan plated senior Jack Magane to even the contest at five. After the Beacons regained the lead at 6-5 in their half of the sixth, JWU scored twice in the seventh behind run-scoring singles from freshman pinch-hitter Evan Brindisi and sophomore Jack Obert to grab a 7-6 lead. Fortes' two-run single in the eighth extended the lead to 9-6.

Junior Ryan Schultz picked up the win in relief, allowing three hits and one run over 3.2 innings of work. He walked one and struck out one.
