WATERTOWN, Mass. – Junior Xavier Botelho drove in eight runs to help the Johnson & Wales (RI) University baseball team complete a sweep of Lasell University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) baseball action at Victory Park.
Game One: Wildcats 14, Lasers 1 (7 inn.)
Botelho belted a three-run home run and classmate EJ Leone also left the yard as the Wildcats thumped the Lasers in the opener, scoring five times in the opening frame. Botelho finished with two hits and five RBI, freshman Owen Davis plated a pair of runs, and senior Miles Kelly and sophomore Trevor Juan each collected two hits. Freshman Aidan Vining allowed four hits and one run over seven to go with eight strikeouts to move to 5-2.
Game Two: Wildcats 10, Lasers 1
Botelho and Kelly each drove in three runs, and both Leone and junior Riley Hasson picked up two RBI in the win. Leone's two-run home run highlighted a three-run first for JWU, which scored five times in the ninth to blow the game open, highlighted by a three-run jack from Botelho. Hasson, meanwhile, laced a pair of RBI singles to back sophomore starter Ryan Schultz, who surrendered six hits and one run over six to improve to 4-0. He walked two and struck out three.
