PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University baseball team split its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader against Elms College Sunday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Game One: Wildcats 11, Blazers 1
Sophomore Trevor Juan homered and drove in two runs and junior Riley Hasson laced a two-run single and picked up three RBI for the Wildcats. Junior Thorin Sanchez-Guerra smacked a two-run triple and classmate EJ Leone recorded three hits as JWU scored 11 runs for the third consecutive contest. Graduate student Kyle Cutler allowed seven hits and one run with one walk and a pair of strikeouts to move to 5-2 on the season.
Game Two: Blazers 4, Wildcats 1
Hasson picked up two of the Wildcats seven hits while Sanchez-Guerra laced a double and accounted for the lone JWU run with an RBI groundout in the second. Freshman Elijah Barber suffered the loss as he allowed six hits and two runs while striking out three in 3.2 IP.
