FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Graduate student Griffin Snyder launched a pair of solo home runs to propel the Johnson & Wales (RI) University baseball team to a 6-3 win over previously unbeaten Methodist University Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Armstrong-Shelley Field.
Senior Miles Kelly collected three hits and scored twice for the Wildcats (1-3) while junior Riley Hasson and sophomores Nicolas Fortes and Owen Davis all picked up and RBI. Graduate student Kyle Cutler got the start for JWU and tossed seven innings of one-run ball to pick up the win. The East Hampton, Connecticut native scattered four hits and walked six while striking out five.
After the Monarchs (11-1) opened the scoring with a run in the first, Davis drew an RBI walk in the top of the second to tie the game at one. Later in the inning, Kelly scored on a fielders choice to give JWU a 2-1 lead.
Fotes added an RBI single in the fifth to stretch the lead to 3-1 before round trippers from Snyder in the sixth and eighth innings extended the lead to 5-1. The Wildcats added an unearned run in the ninth and freshman Brett Nickerson worked bottom half of the frame to record the save.
