Beacons rally to down Wildcats, 13-11

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Miles Kelly and junior Jack Magane each registered three hits in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 13-11 loss to UMass Boston in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Senior Miles Kelly, along with sophomores AJ Braid, Owen Davis, and Xavier Botelho, each drove in two runs for the Wildcats (6-5), whose six errors led to four unearned runs on the afternoon.

JWU threw up four runs in the first behind a solo blast from junior Trevor Juan, a sac fly from Davis, an RBI triple from Kelly, and a run-scoring double from Braid. In the second, back-to-back doubles Kelly and freshman Jack Obert extended the lead to 6-0.

Run-scoring singles from Davis, Braid, and junior Thorin Sanchez-Guerra in the fourth helped the Wildcats move ahead, 9-4. In their next turn at-bat, Botelho's two-run double extended the lead to 11-5.

The Beacons (7-4) shut down the JWU offense for the next four innings and pushed across three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh, and three in their half of the ninth to take their first lead of the day, 13-11.

Freshman Brett Nickerson took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing two hits and three runs while walking two in 0.2 innings of work in the ninth.
