Baseball Opens Florida Trip With 17-Inning Game

The Johnson & Wales Baseball team got in action on Tuesday afternoon after their opening game of spring break was postponed due to weather.  JWU fell in a 17-inning game to Immaculata, 13-8.  JWU drops to 0-2 while Immaculata improved to 4-3.

After Immaculata took the lead in the top of the first inning, the Wildcats grabbed their first advantage in the bottom of the third inning, following RBI's from Noah Reeder (Davidsonville, Md.) and EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.).  Immaculata regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning, scoring three runs on two singles and taking a 4-2 advantage.  JWU responded with a four-run inning of their own, starting with an RBI Single form Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.).  Miles Kelly (East Setauket, N.Y.) then cleared the bases with a single, driving home Juan, Xavier Bothelo (Rehoboth, Mass.), and Jack Magane (Walpole, Mass.) to take a 6-4 lead.

After the Mighty Macs scored one run in the seventh and eighth, the game went to extra innings.  The Mighty Macs took the lead in the eleventh inning at 8-6, before the Wildcats knotted the score through Griffin Snyder (Marietta, Ga.) and Leone, forcing more extra innings.

After five more scoreless innings, the Might Macs scored five in the top of the 17th inning. The Wildcats were unable to overcome the deficit of the bottom half of the frame, falling 13-8.

JWU gets back in action on Wednesday when they take on Westfield St. at 12:00pm.
