Baseball Drops Pair To Bears

The Johnson & Wales Baseball team dropped a pair of contests on Sunday afternoon to the Coast Guard Bears.  Following the doubleheader, JWU sits at 2-12 while the Bears are 8-6.

Game 1: Coast Guard 9, JWU 7

The Wildcats jumped out to a lead early in game one, scoring two runs in the top of the first with first-year right fielder EJ Leone driving in the second.  The Bears took the lead  back over the following two innings, with five straight eruns capped off by a Charles Red RBI single.

JWU responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with a five run frame of their own.  Leone started the scoring with an RBI single that drove home Griffin Snyder.  The Wildcats added four more in the inning, capped off by a run scored on a ball put in play by Miles Kelly, giving JWU a 7-5 lead.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Bears scored three runs to take a 9-7 lead, eventually winning by the score.

Game 2: Coast Guard 2, JWU 1

The second game was a pitchers duel, with a combined three runs in the contest.  JWU opened the scoring one again on a Kellydouble that drove home Trevor Juan in the bottom of the third frame.  The Bears scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and held the Wildcats the rest of the game, with JWU losing 2-1.
