The Johnson & Wales Baseball team fell to the Beacons of UMASS Boston on Tuesday afternoon 7-6. JWU drops to 1-9 while UMASS improved to 8-2.
JWU opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a Miles Kelly (East Setauket, N.Y.) double that plated Trevor Juan (Bolton, Conn.). EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.) drove in a second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly that brought home Kelly, giving JWU a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats added four more runs in the top of the fifth inning, headlined by a Nicolas Fortes (Cranston, R.I.) single down the left field line that plated Griffin Snyder (Marietta, Ga.) and Leone.
The Beacons added five runs over the next two innings, cutting the lead to one heading into the eighth inning. After a double brought home the tying run in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Beacons found the winning run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the ninth frame, winning 7-6.
