The Johnson & Wales baseball team dropped a non-conference tilt to the Jumbos of Tufts University on Tuesday afternoon. JWU drops to 0-6 on the season while Tufts improves to 2-0.
Following a scoreless first inning, the Wildcats go ton the board first in the bottom of the season frame. EJ Leone (Peabody, Mass.) singled to left field, plating Xavier Bothelo (Rehoboth, Mass.) and giving JWU a 1-0 advantage. After Tufts knotted the game in the top of the third, the Wildcats restored their one run advantage in the top of the fourth inning. A Bothelo sacrifice line out to center field plated Griffin Snyder (Marietta, Ga.), putting JWU back on top 2-1.
The Jumbos responded in the top of the fifth inning, scoring five runs that were headlined by a Ryan Noone triple, that plated the two runners on base. The Wildcats were unable to mount a comeback in the final innings, falling 7-2.
JWU gets back in action this weekend when they travel to take on Cortland in a three game series, starting with a doubleheader on Saturday.
