DORCHESTER, Mass. – Taking on the best sailing programs in New England, the Johnson & Wales University sailing team held its own at the NEISA Championships. The Wildcats finished the two-day event in 17th place.
JWU scored 488 points to finish just behind Salve Regina and ahead of Middlebury College. Yale won the event, hosted by Boston College at the Savin Hill Yacht Club.
Senior Peter Sterflinger (Centerport, N.Y.) served as the captain and Thomas Pluchino (Centerport, N.Y.) was the crew for the A boat that placed 14th with 194 points. They won the fifth race on day one as part of their seven top 10 finishes.
The B boat was captained by Brett Doty (Holtsville, NY) with Caoilinn Boyle (Plymouth, Mass.) serving as the crew for the first 12 races and Lily Doolin (Beverly Hills, Mich.) handled the responsibilities for the last six. They recorded 294 points.
With only three seniors on the roster, including Sterflingher, head coach Alan Penney should have another quality squad next season.
