Box Score The baseball team dropped a 5-0 decision against Mount St. Mary on Wednesday afternoon. The game was held at TicketReturn.com field, the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Class "A" affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
Mount St. Mary got all the runs they would need in the top of the first as a pair of unearned runs made the score 2-0. Rocco Pepe and Johnny Vaccaro each had RBI hits in the inning for the Knights. MSM added three more runs in the late innings en route to the 5-0 victory.
Five different players each notched a hit in the setback for Johnson & Wales. Pepe went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Vaccaro was 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI in the win for the Knights.
Senior Shawn Haugh (Tampa, Fla.) suffered the setback on the mound for Johnson & Wales, allowing one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work. Ryan Turton picked up the win for Mount St. Mary, pitching eight scoreless innings on six hits with one strikeout.
With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 1-1 for the year while Mount St. Mary improves to 1-2 for the season. The Wildcats will return to action on Thursday, March 5th when they take on Scranton at the Ripken Experience starting at 2:00 p.m.
