Box Score The baseball team suffered a 12-1 setback against Framingham State in a non-conference contest at the New England Baseball Complex on Thursday afternoon.
Framingham State took a 1-0 lead in their first at bat on back-to-back doubles from seniors Ivan Colon (Waltham, Mass.) and Billy Derosier (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Johnson & Wales loaded the bases with one out in the fourth after a base hit and a pair of walks, but couldn't convert as the host Rams held on to the 1-0 lead.
The Rams extended the lead in their half of the fourth on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior Kevin Driscoll (Chelmsford, Mass.) that scored RJ Gray (Lowell, Mass.), who had singled earlier in the inning. Framingham broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. John Gill's (Hudson, Mass.) ground rule double to right pushed the Rams lead to three as he drove in Derosier, who had walked to lead off the inning. Driscoll followed with a two run double down the left field line extending the lead to 5-0. Jake Wardwell (Hudson, Mass.) reached on an error, driving in Gill with the fourth run of the inning and after advancing on a ground out Wardwell scored on a wild pitch.
The Wildcats got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth when they sent seven men to the plate. Junior Andrew Hunton (Monroe, N.Y.) reached on a single. On Huton's steal of second, the throw sailed into center field allowing sophomore Brad McParlin (Pawtucket, R.I.), who doubled to lead off the inning, to score from third. Framingham State tacked on five more in the bottom of the eighth en route to the 12-1 victory.
Senior Zack Kirby (Rochester, Mass.) picked up the win on the mound for Framingham State, allowing one unearned run in eight innings, giving up four hits with nine strikeouts. Junior Lane Compton (Freeland, Mich.) took the loss for JWU, allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings of work.
