Women's Volleyball Splits Pair Of Matches At Springfield Invitational

The women's volleyball squad split a pair of contests at the Springfield Invitational held on Saturday.  The Wildcats dropped a 3-0 (18-25, 13-25, 12-25) decision against Amherst before rebounding for a 3-1 (25-17, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18) win over Westfield State to wrap up the tournament.  The Wildcats finished in fifth place for the weekend.

Against Amherst, JWU was led by senior Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) with six kills and four digs while junior Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.) added 19 set assists and five digs in the setback for the Wildcats.  Senior Kaitlin Kuntz (Boone, Iowa) notched a match high 14 digs for JWU.

In the victory over Westfield State, Drapeau once again paced JWU with 12 kills while fellow senior Lauren Cordts (Amherst, N.H.) notched 11 kills for the Wildcats.  Kuntz added 18 digs while Tensen racked up 36 set assists and three service aces in the victory.  As a team, JWU recorded eight blocks over Westfield.

Johnson & Wales is now 1-4 for the season and will return to action on Friday-Saturday, September 12-13 when they host the Wildcat Invitational.  JWU will take on Amherst on Friday, September 12th at 5:00 p.m.
