Box Score The women's volleyball squad dropped a 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 23-25, 14-25) decision against Clark in a non-conference contest at the Wildcat Center on Tuesday evening.
In the first set, JWU raced out to a 10-3 lead on a kill by junior Kellen Tensen (New Canaan, Conn.). Clark responded, however and tied the game at 13-13 after a JWU miscue. The visiting Cougars then used a 7-3 run, capped by a kill by sophomore Savannah Sanford (San Anselmo, Calif.) for the 20-16 advantage. Clark then held on for the 25-21 win and the 1-0 lead in the match. The second set saw the Wildcats take command early and never looked back. JWU held a 19-9 lead after a service ace by junior Paula Cadavid (Pawtucket, R.I.) and cruised to the 25-18 win that would knot the game at 1-1.
The third set saw a back and forth affair with the score tied 19-19 on a service ace by junior Kaitlin Kuntz (Boone, Iowa). A kill by JWU senior Alyssa Drapeau (Biddeford, Maine) tied the game at 23-23, but Clark closed out the set with the final two points, including a service ace from senior Kaitlyn Stuck (Bourne, Mass.) to close out the set and give Clark the 2-1 advantage. The fourth and final set had Clark use a 10-3 run midway through the set, capped by a kill by junior Shannon Glass-Smythe (Albequerque, N.H.) for the 17-10 lead. The Cougars then held on for the 25-14 win for the set en route to the 3-1 victory in the match.
Cadavid paced Johnson & Wales with 13 kills and eight digs while Tensen notched 40 set assists and 18 digs in the setback. Drapeau added a double-double with 12 kills, 15 digs and three blocks for the Wildcats.
Freshman Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the way for Clark with a match-high 21 kills, 14 digs and two blocks while sophomore Tori Whitney (Sunderland, Mass.) had 42 set assists and seven digs in the win for the Cougars.
With the loss the Wildcats fall to 4-7 while Clark improves to 5-6 on the year. JWU will return to action on Saturday, September 27th when they host Anna Maria and Simmons for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match, starting at 10:00 a.m.
