Men's Soccer Battles Thomas To 0-0 Tie

Box Score

The men's soccer team battled Thomas to a 0-0 tie in double overtime at the Springfield College Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) saved a penalty kick with 1:25 left in the second overtime session to preserve a scoreless draw for the Wildcats.

Johnson and Wales held a slight 17-16 advantage in shots, while Thomas had eight corner kicks compared to five for Johnson and Wales.

Johnson and Wales had the game’s other prime scoring chance in the 30th minute. At that time, Thomas was called for a foul on their own six yard line, giving Johnson and Wales an indirect free kick. However, a wall of Terriers across the goal line blocked three consecutive Wildcat shots to keep the game scoreless.

Ferraro made eight saves to earn the shutout while Nick McCann made five saves for Thomas.

With the draw, both teams' records now stand at 0-1-1 this season.  The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, September 11th when they host Rivier in a GNAC contest at 3:00 p.m.
