PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman 
Ryan Alves scored the game-winning goal 15 minutes into the match as the JWU (Providence) men's soccer team locked down a spot in the Conference of New England (CNE) playoffs with a 2-0 shutout of Western New England Tuesday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Chad Parente added an insurance marker late in the second half to help the Wildcats secure their eighth win of the season and sixth in conference play. The win sets up a first-round home match on Saturday, November 1 against No. 6 Endicott at noon at the SMAC.

Christopher Vargas ripped a free kick off the crossbar early in the first half and Alves collected the rebound and buried his second collegiate goal to stake the home team to a 1-0 lead. Parente doubled the lead with a great individual effort that resulted with the ball finding the lower right corner of the net at 78:58.

Alexander Nardolillo turned aside four shots as the Golden Bears (8-8-2, 6-3-1 CNE) finished the match with a 17-7 advantage. Parente and senior 
Carlos Andrade paced JWU with two shot each.
