Box Score The eighth seeded men's soccer team dropped a hard fought 2-1 decision against top-seeded Lasell in the quarterfinals of the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship at Taylor Field on Saturday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales took the lead in the eighth minute when freshman Eric Delgado (Pawtucket, R.I.) sent a cross from the right field to fellow rookie Tyler Gates (Peru, Maine) who put the Wildcats up 1-0 by heading in the go-ahead goal. In the 37th minute, Cedric Dybaud (Quincy, Mass.) fed Dan Hatch (Avon, Mass.) with a pass down the center of the field which Hatch converted by chipping a shot into the right corner of the net. The game would head to halftime with a 1-1 tie.
The two teams then battled throughout the entire second half before Stephen Petrin (Vernon, Conn.) broke a tie with five minutes left in the contest to give the Lasers the 2-1 victory.
Matthew Bruninghaus (Plymouth, Mass.) made four saves in the win for Lasell while senior Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) made five stops in the setback for the Wildcats.
With the loss Johnson & Wales falls to 4-12-2 overall while Lasell improves to 9-7-2 on the season
