Box Score The Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team
battled the Emerson Lions to a 1-1 tie in a Great Northeast
Athletics Conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Saturday
afternoon.
With eleven minutes left in the first half, Johnson & Wales
sophomore Ben Bellows (Chester, Conn.) had a
penalty kick opportunity squandered by Lions keeper Noah
Price (Apex, N.C.) on a diving save to his right. That
would be the high point of the half as neither team could convert
despite four shots on goal apiece. Emerson took a 9-5 shot
advantage into the half with the score tied 0-0.
Seven minutes into the second half, sophomore Jacob
Lawrence (Clifton,
Va.) put in a cross from senior
Eric Dabdoub
(Monterrey,
Mexico) to put Emerson up 1-0.
Bellows responded minutes later with a blast from 30 yards out to
knot the contest at one goal apiece. The teams would battle through
the rest of regulation, ending in a 1-1 tie.
Each team had limited chances and could not produce after one
overtime period. With time running out in the second OT, freshman
Eric Delgado
(Pawtucket,
R.I.) put a ball on net that
tipped of Price's hands and then the post leaving the final
score at 1-1.
Senior Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) had four
saves in goal for the Wildcats while Price tallied sxi saves for
Emerson.
Johnson & Wales is now 2-10-2, 1-5-1 in the GNAC while
Emerson is 6-7-1 and 4-2-1 in conference play. The Wildcats will
return to action on Wednesday, October 20th when they
host Mount Ida for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at
3:30 p.m.
