Ava Pontes picked up a hat trick for the JWU (Providence) field hockey team in an 8-0 win over UMass Boston Saturday evening in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Sophomore
Faith Miguel added two goals of her own as the Wildcats (2-0) outshot the first-year Beacons 57-0. Senior
Emily Downing and
Izzy Paes each racked up a goal and an assist, and first-year
Anjail Sooknanan also found the back of the net.
Senior
Sophia Brea played all 60 minutes and moved to 2-0 with the win while classmate
Rayne Millett, along with juniors
Susannah Brown and
Ava Gaudette, each collected an assist.
The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday, September 9 with a 6 p.m. contest against Salve Regina in Middletown, R.I.
