Softball clinches CNE playoff spot with sweep of Colonels

Wildcats extend win streak to 10

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team clinch a playoff berth in the Conference of New England (CNE) Tournament with a sweep on conference foe Curry College Friday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Go Athletic Complex.

Prior to the start of the game one, the Wildcats honored seniors Olivia Mason, Jadyn Torres, Mady Lyons, and Jillian Reed for their contributions to the program.

Game One: Wildcats 16, Rams 3 (5 inn.)
Lyons smashed a two-run home run and drove in three as the Wildcats put up a '7' spot in the first and cruised to win No. 19 on the seas. Mason, meanwhile, finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a two-run single and an RBI double while sophomore Hailey Cardiello also went 3-for-3 with a pair of run-scoring singles and an RBI double. Torres drove in two with a double in the first and Reed collected win No. 13 with a complete-game, three-hitter.

Game Two: Wildcats 10, Colonels 4
Sophomore Morgan Pelletier went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Lyons had two this and two RBI for JWU (20-14, 13-7 CNE), which ran its win streak to 10 with the win. The Wildcats put up three runs in both the first and fourth innings and led 8-3 after four. Sophomore Hailey Cardiello had two hits and two RBI, and both Torres and junior Gabby Bellamore tallied two hits. Junior Madi Wong allowed five and one run with one walk and one strikeout to move to 5-3 on the season.
