Lyons homers twice to push season total to nine

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team dropped a pair of Conference of New England (CNE) games to Roger Williams University Wednesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Game One: Hawks 3, Wildcats 2 (8 inn.)
Senior Mady Lyons launched her eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth that tied the game at two. Senior Jadyn Torres and junior Jessica Forneiro were the only other Wildcats to muster a hit off the Hawks. Senior Jillian Reed was the hard-luck loser as she allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) with one walk and nine strikeouts in eight innings of work.

Game Two: Hawks 13, Wildcats 5 (5 inn.)
Lyons went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBI, and sophomore Morgan Pelletier smacked her fifth round tripper of the season and scored a pair of runs. The Hawks (12-6, 4-1 CNE) struck for three in the third, four in the fourth, and six in the fifth to blow the game open. Junior Brianna Ghilardi started in the circle for the Wildcats (8-12, 2-6 CNE) and was tagged for six hits and five runs (four earned) with four walks in 3.1 innings of work.
