Corey Magill broke a one-all tie with a two-run single in the seventh and freshman
Ryan Barrington fanned seven in a 3-1 win for the JWU (Providence) baseball team over Coast Guard Wednesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Barrington held the Bears to three hits and an unearned run while striking out seven in 6.2 innings of work but left with a no-decision. Senior
Jack Obert, along with sophomores
Jeremy Auren and Magill, all finished with two hits.
Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, Auren led off with an infield single and came around to score on a groundout off the bat of sophomore
Yedan Diaz to tie the game at one.
Freshmen
Dimitri Staphos and
Sam Schoenberg each reached base safely in the seventh, and Magill laced a one-out single up the middle to put the Wildcats (8-15) in front by two.
Freshman
Jake Scharlat worked the final 2.1 innings to notch his first collegiate win.
