Softball moves into third place with sweep of Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) softball team took two from Western New England University Sunday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Golden Bear Softball Park.

With the wins, the Wildcats have moved into third place in the conference and can clinch a playoff berth with a sweep of Curry on Friday at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex. They can also locked up a playoff spot with losses from a few different institutions, but they have played themselves into a 'win and you're in' scenerio.

Game One: Wildcats 5, Golden Bears 2
The Wildcats put up four runs in the fourth to turn a 1-0 deficit into a three-run lead. First-year Ashley Bergeron, sophomore Morgan Pelletier, and junior Chloe Brunelle ripped back-to-back-to-back RBI singles to spark the rally. Senior Jillian Reed slammed the door from there as she notched her 12th win of the season, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four. Pelletier, meanwhile, finished with two hits.

Game Two: Wildcats 6, Golden Bears 3
Senior Jadyn Torres smacked a two-run double and classmate Mady Lyons drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the fourth to help the Wildcats move to 18-14 on the season (11-7 CNE). Pelletier drove in a run with a double in the third and junior Madi Wong secured her second win in as many days working out of the bullpen. She scattered four hits over three scoreless innings before giving way to Reed, who picked up the final two outs for the save.
