Baseball dumps old friend Mitchell, 12-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) baseball team won for the fourth time in five outings with a 12-3 win over Mitchell College in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Junior Jack Dwyer went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and three RBI and sophomore Yedan Diaz picked up four hits and scored three runs as the Wildcats improved to 12-20 on the season. Sophomore Jeremy Auren collected three hits for a JWU squad which saw the first eight batters in the lineup all reach base safely.

With the game tied at two in the second, run-scoring singles from both Dwyer and Diaz sparked a four-run second and put the Wildcats in front for good at 6-2. Freshman Dimitri Staphos brought in two more with a single down the right field line in the sixth to spark another four-run rally and make it 8-3.

Freshman Ryan Barrington worked the first 3.2 innings for JWU and allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) with five walks and five punchouts. Junior Nevin Belanger came on in relief with the bases loaded in the fourth and worked his way out of the jam en route to his first win of 2026. He gave up just one hit in 3.1 innings and struck out three.
